Virtual villagers secret city?

i forgot to put the vilager on the life when it started to rain and now the lift is filled with water and i cant put the villager on the lift it doesnt wanna go on and it doesnt say anything about going on the lift. maybe im putting the villager wrong. but is there any other way i can put it on the lift? does the water dry up?
