Is this guy playing me?

I recently re-connected with a guy friend of mine. He is recently single. He used to ask me out alot in the past but I always told him no because he was in a fading relationship. He suggested we go out via email and gave me his number. I am really old fashion so I gave him my number and told him to call me. Been a few days and nothing! I think its strange because in the past he would always contact me the same day. I decided to email him and asked what he was up to. He said he was out in a nearby area to me. I jokingly asked him if he was on a date and he told me yes! I always kindof liked the guy. I was just waiting for him to make a move. Eventually we texted and he asked me out again. I didnt really acknolwedge it because it seems he was playing games so I retaliated with the same. Now I havent heard from him. WTF? What was all this about? Is he just in a relationship he likes or what is going on? Why ask me out just to now ignore my texts.
